Kazhuththu neckpiece

We looked at this Kazhuththu neckpiece, a traditional neckpiece (the thali, mangalsutra) worn by the brides of the Nattukottai Chettinar Community, and fell in love with it.

The centre piece has two hand shaped forms on either side, which represents the bride and the groom.
The fingers are said to represent the vedas -Rig, Yajur, Sama and Atharva.

We drew inspiration from the form of this neckpiece, and created a series of earrings. We created 5 single pairs as part of this series and each one of them is unique.
